Finance manager and IT engineer processing a bulk corporate laptop purchase with GST invoice in Delhi

Buying MacBooks for Your Company: GST Invoice, Bulk Pricing, and Depreciation Guide (India)

Posted on September 9, 2026September 2, 2026 by Raju Manocha

Searching “buy MacBook Delhi” gets you consumer stores, EMI offers and exchange bonuses — none of which answer the questions a company actually has: Can we claim the GST? What’s the real cost after input credit and depreciation? Is there bulk pricing? How do we deploy ten of these without an IT team? This guide answers the corporate questions, in order.

CNC supplies Apple products to Delhi businesses alongside 30 years of PC, network and support experience — which means we see the finance side and the IT side of a Mac purchase together. That’s the view this guide takes.

Laptops attract 18% GST in India. If your business is GST-registered and the MacBook is used for business, that 18% is claimable as input tax credit — provided the invoice carries your company’s GSTIN, the supplier is registered and files the invoice, and you hold the tax invoice. On a fleet of ten machines, the input credit is a meaningful sum; on an invoice raised to an individual’s name, it’s gone.

Practical rules: purchase order and invoice in the exact registered company name and GSTIN; each machine’s serial number on the invoice; supplier GSTIN visible. Ask before paying — a dealer who hesitates on a proper B2B tax invoice is the wrong dealer.

2. Depreciation — how a MacBook hits the books

Two frameworks apply, and they differ:

Framework Treatment for laptops Effect
Income Tax Act (tax computation) “Computers including software” block — 40% written-down-value rate Fast tax write-off: 40% year 1, 40% of the balance year 2, and so on
Companies Act 2013, Schedule II (books of account) End-user devices (desktops, laptops) — useful life of 3 years Straight-line over 3 years in the P&L for companies

Two details matter. First, under income tax, an asset put to use for fewer than 180 days in the year gets half the rate that year — so a September purchase gets full 40%, a November purchase gets 20%. Second, sole proprietors and partnerships follow the Income Tax treatment for tax and their own books; the Companies Act schedule applies to companies. Your accountant will map both; the point is that a MacBook is a fast-depreciating asset in India, which improves its after-tax cost considerably.

3. Bulk pricing — what’s realistic

Apple’s India pricing is tightly controlled, so “bulk discount” works differently than with PC brands. What a corporate buyer can realistically expect from a business-focused dealer: a modest per-unit reduction on fleet quantities, configuration consistency across the order, a single consolidated GST invoice, AppleCare+ for Business bundled at better terms, deployment services included, and — the one that matters most — the right model mix so you’re not paying for a Pro where an Air will do. The savings on a corporate order come mostly from specification discipline and total cost of ownership, not from headline discounts.

4. Which MacBook for which role

Role Sensible choice Why
Sales, management, admin, finance MacBook Air, base or 16 GB All-day battery, silent, more than enough for Office, browser, Tally via cloud/remote
Design, marketing, video MacBook Pro 14″, higher memory Sustained performance, better display, ports
Development, data MacBook Pro 14″/16″, 32 GB+ Memory-hungry workloads, external displays
Field staff MacBook Air 13″ Lightest, cheapest to replace

Memory cannot be upgraded later on any MacBook; storage can’t either. Specify for year three of the machine’s life, not day one — 16 GB is the sensible corporate floor in 2026.

5. Deploy like a company, not ten individuals

Ten MacBooks set up by ten employees with personal Apple IDs is an asset-management and security problem waiting to happen. The corporate route:

  • Apple Business Manager (free): register the company, have the dealer add devices at purchase so they auto-enrol on first boot.
  • Mobile device management (MDM): pushes Wi-Fi, email, security policies, apps and encryption, and lets you remote-lock or wipe a lost machine.
  • Managed Apple IDs for company data separation, with FileVault encryption enforced — which also supports your DPDP “reasonable security safeguards” obligation.
  • Asset register: serial, user, purchase date, warranty end — needed for depreciation, insurance and audits.

6. Warranty, AppleCare and the Windows question

Standard Apple warranty is one year; AppleCare+ for Business extends to three years with accidental-damage cover — worth it for field staff, optional for desk-bound users. On compatibility: Tally Prime runs on Windows, so Mac-first offices typically run Tally on a Windows server or cloud desktop accessed from the Mac, or keep one Windows machine for accounts. Microsoft 365 and most SaaS tools are platform-neutral. Plan this before the purchase, not after.

A worked example: what a corporate MacBook really costs

Take an illustrative machine priced at ₹1,20,000 plus 18% GST — ₹1,41,600 on the invoice. For a GST-registered business, the ₹21,600 tax is claimed as input credit, so the effective outlay is ₹1,20,000. Under income tax, that ₹1,20,000 sits in the 40% block: ₹48,000 depreciation in year one (if put to use for 180 days or more), ₹28,800 in year two, ₹17,280 in year three — roughly ₹94,000 written off against taxable income over three years. At a 25–30% effective tax rate, that’s a further ₹23,000–₹28,000 of real saving, bringing the true three-year cost of the machine to under ₹1 lakh — before counting the residual resale value, which for Macs stays unusually high. Buy the same machine on a personal invoice and the input credit disappears and the depreciation position becomes murkier. The paperwork is where the corporate saving lives.

7. The corporate buying checklist

  1. PO and invoice in registered company name with GSTIN; serials listed.
  2. Model mix agreed per role; 16 GB minimum; storage sized for 3 years.
  3. Apple Business Manager enrolment at point of sale.
  4. MDM chosen and configured before delivery.
  5. AppleCare+ decided per role.
  6. Asset register created on day one; depreciation schedule shared with the accountant.
  7. Windows/Tally access plan confirmed.
  8. Delivery, setup and user handover scheduled — not “collect from store”.

Frequently asked questions

Can a sole proprietor claim GST input credit on a MacBook?

Yes, if the proprietorship is GST-registered, the invoice is in the proprietorship’s name and GSTIN, and the laptop is used for business. Personal-use proportion, if any, is disallowed.

Is the depreciation rate the same for a MacBook and a Windows laptop?

Yes — both fall under “computers” for income tax (40% WDV) and “end-user devices” for Companies Act purposes (3-year useful life). The brand doesn’t change the treatment.

Do we get better pricing buying 10 MacBooks together?

Modestly on the units; substantially on the total through bundled AppleCare terms, deployment included, and correct specification per role. Ask for a fleet quotation rather than ten retail invoices.

Can CNC supply MacBooks to companies in Delhi with GST invoice?

Yes — corporate GST invoicing, fleet quotations, Apple Business Manager enrolment, MDM setup, deployment and ongoing support. See our Apple products for business page.
