What It Is Really Like to Work at an IT Company in Delhi — Life at CNC

Most job listings tell you what a role involves and what the salary range is. What they do not tell you is what you will actually experience after you walk through the door on day one — the team, the work, the management style, and whether the company actually does what it says on paper.

This post is about that. It is a candid account of what working at Classic Network and Computers (CNC) in West Patel Nagar, Delhi looks like — from the daily routine to the long-term career picture. If you are considering applying, this will give you a realistic sense of what you are joining.

A Bit About CNC

I am Raju Manocha, Founder of Classic Network and Computers. I started CNC in April 1996 after spending 12 years at CMC Limited — one of India’s first large IT companies. We began as a small IT services firm in West Patel Nagar, and over the past 30 years we have grown into a company serving 500+ businesses across Delhi NCR — including USAID, UNDP, AIIMS, TCS, Siemens, and Mahindra Finance.

We are not a startup chasing funding. We are not a large MNC where you are a number on a spreadsheet. We are a 29-person professional IT company where every person’s contribution is visible, valued, and rewarded.

A Day in the Life — Four Roles, Four Different Experiences

IT Sales Executive

A typical day for a CNC sales executive begins at the office for a morning briefing — reviewing pending proposals, follow-up calls, and the day’s scheduled client visits. By mid-morning, you are out meeting prospects: SME owners in Karol Bagh who need an AMC contract, a hospital administrator in Rohini looking for CCTV installation, or a finance company in Nehru Place asking about cyber security. You close some visits the same day. Others take two or three follow-ups. In between, you are on the phone, answering product questions, sending quotations, and coordinating with the technical team.

It is field-heavy, relationship-driven work. The incentive structure rewards results directly — the more you close, the more you earn. There is no ceiling on what a good sales executive can make at CNC.

Customer Support Engineer

The customer support engineer’s day is based in the office. Calls come in from AMC clients across Delhi NCR — a computer that will not start, a printer throwing errors, a VPN that stopped working, a laptop screen going blank. You diagnose over phone and remote desktop, resolve what you can remotely, and escalate to a field engineer when on-site work is needed. You log every ticket, track resolution times, and follow up until the client confirms the issue is closed.

It is a fast-paced, problem-solving role that builds troubleshooting skills quickly. If you are a fresher who knows the basics of Windows, networking, and hardware, this is one of the best roles to start an IT support career in Delhi. You will handle real client problems from your first week — not test environments or training modules.

Field Service Engineer

Field engineers are on the move by 10 AM — typically visiting two to four client sites across Delhi NCR each day. You might start at a corporate office in Okhla replacing a failed hard drive, then move to a clinic in Janakpuri to sort out a network issue, then finish with a preventive maintenance visit for an AMC client in Rohini. Each site is different: different hardware, different software configurations, different client personalities.

This is the role that builds the broadest technical foundation. Within a year, you will have worked on Dell, HP, Lenovo, Apple, Acer, and Asus hardware; configured Cisco and TP-Link networks; set up servers running Windows Server and Linux; and handled everything from virus removal to RAID recovery. That depth is hard to get anywhere else at this stage of a career.

Service Coordinator

The service coordinator is the operational centre of CNC. Your morning starts with reviewing open jobs from the previous day — which engineer is going where, which client visit needs to be rescheduled, which spare part is in stock. You assign engineers to new service requests, track job completion, maintain client communication, and prepare the daily and weekly service reports that go to management.

It is an office-based role that suits people who are organised, detail-oriented, and comfortable switching between tasks quickly. If you have prior experience coordinating at a service centre, logistics company, or IT firm, the transition to CNC is natural.

Salary, Incentives, and the Awards That Actually Matter

Let me be direct about compensation. CNC pays a fixed salary that is competitive for Delhi NCR, reviewed annually for every employee. There are no delays, no excuses, and no months where the salary arrives ten days late — something that is unfortunately not guaranteed at many smaller IT companies in Delhi.

For roles with a performance component — particularly sales and field service — there is a structured incentive on top of the base. Sales executives who consistently perform can earn significantly above their base salary through incentives.

Beyond the monthly pay, CNC has two recognition programmes that I personally care about:

Monthly performance award: Every month, the top-performing engineer and the top sales contributor are recognised at the office — a cash reward and a printed certificate, presented in front of the whole team. It is not a large ceremony, but it matters. People know who performed, and the team celebrates it together.

Annual Best Engineer and Best Sales awards: At the end of each year, we hold our annual awards — a slightly larger occasion where the best engineer and best sales professional of the year receive a cash prize. I present these awards myself. I think it is important that the founder is personally involved in recognising the people who have contributed most to the company’s year.

We also give festival bonuses — typically around Diwali — as a small acknowledgement that the team’s effort is what makes CNC function.

Career Growth — What Actually Happens After You Join

CNC promotes from within. This is not a slogan. It is how we have run the company since the beginning, because we believe that the people who know CNC’s clients, processes, and technical environment are more valuable in senior roles than strangers hired from outside.

If you join as a Customer Support Engineer and you are good at your job, you will move to a Senior Support Engineer role and eventually lead the support team. If you join as an IT Sales Executive and you consistently grow your client base, you will move into a Sales Manager role with a team under you.

What I tell every new joiner: the ceiling at CNC is determined by your performance and your ambition, not by how many years you have been here. We have had people grow from juniors to team leads in three years. We have also had people stay at the same level for five years because they chose not to push further — and that is fine too. The choice is yours.

One specific advantage for engineers: CNC’s client list includes enterprises, hospitals, NGOs, and MNCs. Working with clients of that quality — and having those names visible in your professional history — strengthens your CV considerably, regardless of where your career takes you after CNC.

The Work Environment — Honest Assessment

CNC is a 29-person company. That size has specific advantages and specific limitations, and I would rather be honest about both.

What works well at this size: Decisions are fast. If you have an idea, a problem, or a concern, you can bring it to management directly — including to me. There is no HR department you file a complaint with and then wait six weeks for a response. There are no layers of middle management between the work and the people responsible for it. The team knows each other. New joiners are not left to figure things out alone — there is always someone to ask.

What is different from a large company: There are no structured training programmes with certifications, no large canteen, no shuttle bus, no branded merchandise. The perks are real but practical — good salary, meaningful work, fair management, and genuine growth opportunity. If you are looking for a job at a company with a large brand name and a foosball table in the office, CNC is not that company.

What we do offer is work that is genuinely challenging, a team that respects competence, and management that treats people fairly. For the right person — someone who values substance over surface — this is a very good place to build a career.

Work Hours and Commute

Office hours are Monday to Saturday, 10 AM to 7 PM. There are no night shifts and no Sunday working. Field engineers work within Delhi NCR during standard hours.

The office is at O-41, West Patel Nagar, New Delhi 110008 — a 4-minute walk from Shadipur Metro station (Blue Line) and 2 minutes from Shadipur Bus Stand. For candidates living anywhere along the Blue Line — Janakpuri, Dwarka, Uttam Nagar, Tilak Nagar, Subhash Nagar, Tagore Garden, Rajouri Garden, Kirti Nagar, Moti Nagar, Karol Bagh — the commute is direct and predictable. Parking is available at the office for those who prefer to ride or drive.

Is CNC the Right Fit for You?

CNC is a good fit if you want real technical breadth, visible recognition for your work, and a career path that is determined by how well you perform rather than how long you have been sitting at the same desk.

It may not be the right fit if your primary goal is a large company brand name, or if you prefer a very structured, process-heavy environment where everything follows a documented procedure.
